In Between
Years ago, I sought spiritual support from my Mother who had died. In my visionary thoughts, my Mother was snapping beans. I asked Mom, “What can I do? I am so confused about life.” She looked up and said emphatically, “Becky, the answer is in between the beans.” I have used those words as a stepping-off point for creating a body of work, “In Between.” This group of paintings is a call to discovery about life’s precious secrets: birth, growing sequences, bearing life, edges and barriers that free us and constrain us, strengths and weaknesses, night and day, connections to the universe, and death. The answers reveal themselves– the seed opens and spills its life and the regeneration of life happens again and again.
